We all know that a match can be won or lost in the last hour as often the bigger fish move to the edge and start feeding confidently, this is why it is important to have the right groundbait to feed in the edge. Carp are attracted to groundbait and they will come in and feed confidently if the area is primed. The problem with a lot of groundbaits that people use for catching carp in the margins is they are too light and don’t contain enough feed to keep the fish feeding. Often when carp come into the margins they will stir up the bottom when feeding and as soon as they are hooked all the groundbait which has brought them to the margin is wafted away by the hooked fish. Because of this, we created a groundbait which not only draws the carp to the margins but also keeps them there as even if the fish kicks up the groundbait, the majority of it will drop back down in the same area rather than being washed away. Designed for river Barbel and Chub, this mix is based around crushed Hemp with the addition of Halibut Pellets and a very strong garlic powder. It has a coarse texture and binds well making it ideal for feeder fishing or balling in. The ground Hemp produces a very light oil which is released immediately, even in cold temperatures giving instant attraction and the heavier fish oils in Halibut pellets are released at a slower rate and keeps pumping out of the pellets as the water flows over them so drawing fish to the feeder for a prolonged period of time and the extra strong garlic powder is washed through the swim drawing in fish to the bait. "Used straight from the bag it mixes up into a really heavy groundbait which binds well, so it balls in easily and can be used to carry plenty of chopped worm, but one of my favourite feeder skimmer mixes is 1/3rd River, 1/3rd Bream and 1/3rd soil which is a nice heavy dark mix with plenty of feed for the skimmers." MIXING INSTRUCTIONS So Natural River is simple to mix. Empty the 1kg bag of groundbait into a round mixing bucket, fill a 1 pint maggot tub with water, pour this onto the groundbait and mix thoroughly, then allow it to rest for 30 minutes, during this time the water will be absorbed into the groundbait. Then for best results; to remove any lumps and create an even consistency, pass the groundbait through a riddle and it is ready to use. When fishing sun and wind may dry the groundbait out a little, to combat this you can cover the mixed groundbait with a damp towel or if it does dry out just add a little more water and mix again.
